Hocus Bocas!

 October 2014 – Part 3

It was only a couple of days before Teena from the US of A rose up from the ocean like a latter-day Venus and waded onto my boat.

No really, there’s a sunken island just off the north west tip of Bocas town. It sunk in the early 90s after a big storm. At low tide you can walk on it… like Jesus!

We elected to stay in Bocas and the night progressed as one might expect, in a drunken and hilarious fashion.

Introducing Trudy and Adam from AUSTRALIA (you'd never guess).
Somehow I knew we’d end up in Aqua Lounge…
Aqua Lounge is Bocas’s school disco. They only play the worst music, and they play that exact same music every week.
And the armed guards are always so happy to see us!

The next day Teena and I picked up another two Couchsurfers, Daniel and Paty from Brazil, took them back to Jinja Island and cooked up a storm!

It was Daniel’s birthday so we may have drinky-ed too muchy.

The next day we said my goodbyes to Paty and Daniel, and Teena and I headed for Red Frog.

And who should we bump into but Trudy and Adam from the other day!

On the way back to the boat dock we even saw a Strawberry Dart Frog – the tiny amphibious wotsit what gives Red Frog its name.

Teena, being the good soul that she is, persuaded me to take Trudy and Adam back to the island with us for a swim in the Jinja Island Lagoon.

The next day we went looking for Dolphins…

Rockin’ out on a speedboat, with an ice cold beer, surrounded by Dolphins. Not a bad way to spend a Wednesday afternoon! That night we polished off Daniel’s second birthday cake (yes we made two for some reason!).

The next day it was time to say hooroo to Adam and Trudy…

And catch yer later to Teena.

"If you're ever in the neighbourhood..."

But October wasn’t even over, we still had Halloween to go!

Apparently, Halloween is kind of a big deal in Bocas Del Toro, and I’m not one to sit out of a good excuse for drinks and mayhem, especially when it involves fancy dress.

When I got to town the next day I ran into a couple of familiar faces: Vreni and Carmen were still knocking around!

After a day boozin’ on my favourite floating bar, we went to Mundo Taito for a quick game of Cards Against Humanity. Since Vreni lost the game, she was “treated” to a free tequila suicide (you have to snort a line of salt, have lime juice poured into your eye and then drink the cheapest, nastiest tequila on the market). Once Vreni had recovered from her ordeal, Wayne and Garth recommended we head to the Bookstore.

The Bookstore was crazy. The party spilt out onto the street. At one point a coffin was wheeled out of the bar, it opened and the owner of the Bookstore, Loco Dave, emerged dressed as “Zombie Bon Scott”. He belted out a couple of Acca Dacca faves and the crowd, in their makeshift Halloween costumes, went nuts.

My best Bocas night out yet.

I LOVE THIS TOWN!!!
